CAMPBERGEN-BELSEN
ENGLISHBergen-Belsen, near Lunenburg, hosted Soviet prisoners of war in 1941, later decimated by an epidemic of typhus. From April 1943, the SS moved 500 deportees from Natzweiler/Struthof, Buchenwald, and Hungary to Bergen-Belsen. In February 1945 a second outbreak of typhus decimated 25,165 deportees; 19,000 died after the liberation of the camp by the British army (April 15th, 1945).
